Will King Dice compete in 2010?

dice1This year 2009 King Dice elected not to defend his calypso crown. I’m not sure what was the reason given but coincidentally his writer and composer Pat Aaron also decided not to write any songs for the 2009 competition. Calypso fans seemed befuddled by this decision. Never before could fans remember a reigning calypso king deciding not to defend his crown. Many expressed concerns that the competition for 2009 would “not be the same” if Dice did not compete and Pat Aaron did not write any songs.  Others saw this an an opportunity to rise and shine, to showcase their talents as songwriters and performers without being overshadowed by the perceived brilliance of Dice as a performer and Pat Aaron as a calypso writer.

But why was King Dice passing up on a chance to make further history? Did he not want to set himself apart from Idol and Solo by winning the calypso title four times in a row, like Michael set himself apart from Magic by winning one more title? He could have been alone at the top of the pedestal. Did he decide to be loyal to his song write and not participate because the writer decided not to write any calypsos that year? Was he burning out? One can only speculate and wait for an interesting 2010 season.
